So here I am, sitting in the kitchen of my sober house, just farting around online. My attention span? Pretty close to squirrel-level. I can’t focus on any one task for more than, say… 15 seconds. And yet, here I am, writing this post. Funny how that works, isn’t it?
Honestly, I’m not entirely sure what to write about. I might just word-vomit a little—and if you find yourself nodding along, maybe even smiling at how familiar it feels, that’s okay. A general wellness update seems like a good place to start. Let me share where I’m at, and perhaps you’ll feel inspired to take a tiny action yourself—something as small, but as meaningful, as clicking a button.
This morning, I was supposed to be at a roofing company’s office at 9 AM. I texted my contact yesterday evening, letting him know I wouldn’t be able to start training because of a medical thing. The weather was forecasted to be awful—a 95% chance of rain and a wintry mix. So no roofs, no canvassing neighborhoods, no pretending I had it all together. Basically, I told him I’d like to start on Tuesday instead. He never replied. Classy, right?
I ended up sleeping most of the day away. Ever notice how sometimes your body just knows it needs a reset, even if your mind isn’t on board? I know I do. I need a hobby. A dog. A girlfriend. A commitment. Something that gets the dopamine flowing and nudges me to live rather than snoozing like a Snorlax. Maybe you can relate—thinking of the little things you’ve been putting off, imagining how it would feel to finally do them… even something as simple as offering a tiny bit of support can make a difference.
Of course, I got distracted. Ugh. Trying to decide between pepper or the logo as a favicon for my website… whatever. But you know that feeling, when your mind jumps from one tiny decision to the next? And you can’t help but smile a little because, somehow, it’s all part of the same messy, moving-forward process? And sometimes, just sometimes, one little choice—like clicking a small button—can be enough to join in, even in a tiny way.
Then, early this afternoon, something shifted. I got a call from the Walgreens down the road where I applied over the holiday. They want to interview me tomorrow at 12:30! That’s the kind of small win that makes everything else—the waiting, the ghosting, the weather, the naps—feel like just the setup for this little spark of progress. And now, if you’ve been enjoying following along, you might notice that it’s almost natural to take a tiny action yourself… maybe even to show a little support by clicking a button you see nearby. That one small click—just the tip—can be a surprisingly satisfying way to participate.
So yeah, I won’t be starting at the roofing company after all… but something tells me that’s exactly how it was supposed to go. And somehow, by sharing this, and maybe even taking that tiny action, we’re both moving forward in our own ways.
